Abstract

The article reconstructs the main provisions of Tolstoy’s confession of faith and religious practice. Based on comparative approach and method of analysis of historical-cultural reconstruction, religious modality of cultural manifestation of Tolstoyism is studied. On the factual base of faith texts of Tolstoyans, their understanding of God is explicated, as well as the specifics of its naming in the practice of prayerful appeal. Doctrinal distinction between the definition of God and Jesus Christ is reconstructed. The latter interpreted in Tolstoyism as a person who does not have the immediate essence-hypostatic relationship with God. Also understanding of human nature is considered within Tolstoyism, and revealed the format of it’s participation in the Divine. Separately Tolstoyans’ relation to the Christian mystery of the faith is analyzed, and highlighted the most important commandment “ethical canon” of Tolstoyans. Finally, it’s made the conclusion of a major component in the religious teachings of Tolstoy, which received the theoretical basis of understanding the problem of God, human nature, religious and cult practices.
