Abstract
ABSTRACT A new extinct erotylid species of the extant Western Palaearctic genus Zavaljus Reitter, Z. lyubarskyi sp. nov., is described from Rovno amber. This fossil species represents the first report of this genus of the subfamily Xenoscelinae from the Eocene and the second known member of the genus. The new species is illustrated and compared with related extant and morphologically close extinct taxa from Bitterfeld, Baltic and Rovno amber. Probable palaeoecology of the new species is discussed. This newly described pleasing fungus beetle is unique amongst the assemblage of mid-late Eocene amber coleopterans in the exclusively boreal European distribution range of its recent congener.
