Abstract

With the June issue of GIE, we inaugurated one more innovation in the field of gastroenterology and endoscopy publishing, the Authors' Interview Series. Through this innovative concept, GIE readers can now view my team of editors and members of the journal's editorial board as they interview lead authors of articles published in GIE (Fig. 1). Each month, 1 or 2 interviews of authors of original articles or new methods will be posted online at the journal Web site, and they can be viewed at will. These interviews aim to go beyond the traditional model of what an article is all about. They intend to entertain us with vignettes on how a project was conceived, how things materialized, anecdotal discussions of obstacles or pleasant surprises during the conduct of the study, and coverage of backstage events or, sometimes, gossip. At the end, the take-home message of the particular article is matched with a list of ramifications or “what's next?,” thereby bringing our audience closer to our contributors.Several years ago, when I took over the leadership as Editor-in-Chief of our journal, I was addressing what I would have then called “readers” only. Soon thereafter, however, we introduced the concept of “listeners and readers.” Now we are introducing another innovative concept, of “viewers, listeners, and readers,” in order to enhance the experience of reading our journal, which is unquestionably the leading journal in gastrointestinal endoscopy in the world.I welcome you to enjoy interviews with several authors whose articles are being published in GIE. These interviews will give you a flavor, a taste, a smell, or a feel of what they went through when they designed, executed, and prepared the results of the study discussed. In this way, the pleasure provided by the journal will be multifaceted—sometimes in just a traditional printed material, sometimes in the form of a digital piece, sometimes in the form of a podcast or video interview, or in the form of online video clips.I am sure you will enjoy every single one of them…To watch the interviews, log on to www.giejournal.org and click on the “Watch the GIE Author Interview Series” icon.
