Abstract

Equalization of amplifier-shaker-specimen frequency response characteristics has been a requirement for random and shock vibration testing due to the resonant behavior of the shaker and specimen. Such equalization has heretofore been accomplished by different systems for random signals and for shock signals. A presentation of the design criteria which led to the development of EROS, a fully automatic Equalizer for either Random Or Shock vibration testing is included. The philosophy of shock spectrum synthesis as it applies to EROS is discussed. Novel system features include narrow-band equalization for both signal types, simplified display techniques, self-calibrating procedures, use as a spectral analyzer, and wide frequency range (1–10 000 Hz).
