Abstract
In the present optical fiber network, arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) have been employed in the dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) because of its wide free spectral range (FSR) and narrow channel spacing. However, in the high refractive index contrast (HIC) system used in Si photonics, AWGs can be very lossy because of potential reflection between the slab regions and waveguides. To avoid this risk, we replaced the slab structure in the AWGs with the directional couplers. The performance of the device was simulated by the 2-dimensional-finite-difference-time-domain (2D-FDTD) method
