Abstract

The propagation characteristics of a leaky surface wave on quartz were investigated and a new cut of quartz for SAW devices with an extremely small temperature coefficient was discovered. The temperature deviation is within 15ppm from -2O'C to 80°C, and is much smaller than ST-cut. This cut is obtained by leaky surface wave which has a very small attenuation constant and high velocity. The characteristics of several SAW devices on this cut are demonstrated in this paper. This cut of quartz might be called a LST-cut because the leaky surface wave is used.
