Abstract

Computer Information Systems (CIS) educators constantly face the challenge of providing instruction on a variety of rapidly changing topics. This paper describes an innovative approach to designing a new CIS curriculum for educating the information systems developers of the 21st century. The new curriculum offers a unique blend of business and technical perspectives for a business school program. The flexible structure of the new curriculum not only ensures a solid foundation in the fundamentals of information technology, but it also allows us to teach on the cutting edge of current practice. The new curriculum was developed in close cooperation with our Corporate Partners. Their feedback and funding were critical to the success of the redesign process. The paper also discusses the initial implementation of the new curriculum, including issues such as the use of “clinical faculty” and faculty development.
