Abstract
An in-situ x-ray diffraction study using surface differential diffraction (SDD) was carried out to investigate the structural arrangement of Cu adatoms on Pt (111) in the underpotential region. A potential dynamic mode of deposition was used and the adlayer spacing of the adsorbate atoms determined as a function of potential. The studies showed that the adlayer spacing points to an initial open structure with Cu atoms sitting on the 3-fold hollow sites. The unoccupied 3-fold hollow sites are filled on completion of a monolayer.
