Abstract

ABSTRACT One of the still opened problems relating to strengthening and repairing of reinforced concrete structures using fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) is the modelling of the behaviour of the composites structures. Many studies have been carried out to predict the axial load carrying capacities of FRP-retrofitted circular concrete specimens. In this paper, our tests results obtained experimentally and also a large test database of existing studies were applied to clear up the using possibilities of the available axial strength models for FRP confinement. Finally equations to predict the compressive strength and the failure strain, as well as the entire stress-strain curve of FRP-confined concrete cylinders were developed. Comparison between the experimental results and the proposed model provides a satisfactory prediction of the stress-strain response.
