Abstract

A multiple rolling-point loading method for low-stress equal-radial-depth cropping is proposed considering the eccentricity of transient fracture areas of metal bars. The crack propagation criterion under single rolling-point loading is provided. The extended finite element method (XFEM) is used to simulate the longest contiguous propagation of crack fragment and polycyclic propagation of annular crack under multiple rolling-point loading. The bar can then transiently fracture with high-quality section. The cropping experiments of multiple rolling-point loading curves obtained in this paper reveals that the instantaneous fracture area can be reduced by up to 65% and the eccentricity of bars can be avoided.
