Abstract

This paper proposes a high gain dc-dc converter topology based on Multilevel Switched Inductor Quadratic Boost Converter (MSIQB). The MSIQB has an amalgam of switched inductor and voltage multiplier cells to enhance voltage boosting capability. MSIQB offers seven times higher voltage gain at a duty ratio of 0.5 than the conventional boost converter, along with reduced voltage stress across the switch. The MSIQB operation is analyzed through different modes of operation, and for each mode, a detailed mathematical analysis is done. Compared with other existing converters as reported in the literature, MSIQB offers a higher voltage gain. The MSIQB is designed to regulate the output dc link voltage using only one active switch by employing a simple control logic based on the PID controller. The performance of MSIQB is tested under load disturbance and step change in the source voltage. The doability of the MSIQB is verified through MATLAB simulation results.
