Abstract

The present study was conducted in two villages of Dhemaji District, Assam. Data on morphological and behavioural traits were collected from 286 individuals, comprising of 143 males and females each. This study aimed at describing five morphological traits viz., earlobe attachment, hair whorl, mid-phalangeal hair, cleft-chin and relative length of I and II toes; and four behavioural traits viz., arm-folding, hand-clasping, tongue-rolling and tongue-folding among the Mishings of Borola and Uriamguri villages of Dhemaji district. Majority of these traits showed insignificant bisexual variation, excepting cleft-chin and tongue-folding. The findings of the present study show similarity with the published data of the neighbouring populations of North-East India.
