Abstract
Within a population, there are often marked differences in the magnitude of host response to infectious agents or toxins. Although the reasons for such differences are likely to be multifactorial, Arbour and colleagues 1 Arbour N.C. et al. TLR4 mutations are associated with endotoxin hyporesponsiveness in humans. Nat. Genet. 2000; 25: 187-191 Crossref PubMed Scopus (1734) Google Scholar now indicate a possible molecular basis for variability in the response to inhaled lipopolysaccharide (LPS).
