Abstract

This article considers the notion of setting from the viewpoint of scientific and aesthetic paradigms. It explores the relation between subjective configuration and therapeutic treatment method, as well as both their political dimension and their relationship with institutions. This essay suggests psychoanalytic method as a means of going through a particular experience, and it analyses the consequences of adopting this approach when it comes to conceptualizing the setting. It also discusses the notion of setting as a program in opposition to setting as a strategy. Finally, it suggests rethinking this very notion in the realm of an aesthetic paradigm which aims to singular possibilities of subjective mutation instead of pointing to universal categories.
