Abstract

Traditional distribution load flow methods like Backward Forward Sweep, Branch Impedance matrix method are frequently used for system analysis. But these are very much time consuming and have poor convergence characteristics. To overcome such drawbacks a new method of load flow study is proposed here with some changes in Backward Forward Sweep method by promulgating the classical set theory approach for the formation of phase wise system impedance matrix. Using this matrix, the voltage magnitude can easily be evaluated in one step in comparison with Backward Forward Sweep method. With modern days demand, distributed generations included in the system, are modelled and incorporated to have a practical three phase unbalanced system. Also the incorporation of different allied components in the distribution system makes this proposed load flow study more practical and reliable. Proposed load flow technique is tested over standard 10 bus, IEEE 13 bus and 123 bus three phase unbalanced radial system and 28 bus balanced radial system where the load flow results reveals the efficacy of proposed technique.
