Abstract
A multi-function modified quasi z-source converter as front end converter of switched reluctance machine (SRM) has been presented in this paper. This converter decouples the magnetizing port and demagnetizing port in the asymmetric H-bridge converter of the SRM in order to prevent current overlapping. Asymmetric H-bridge converter in SRM only has the ability to apply zero, positive, and negative amount of the DC link voltage. The proposed front end converter theoretically can regulate DC link voltage from dc link voltage to infinity while it protects the integrity of the ASHB. The demagnetizing voltage is a PWM pulse, which can reduce vibration and acoustic noise in the SRM. The z-source network also naturally works as a ripple filter and eliminates the need for capacitor in the input DC link. Also this converter has bidirectional ability, which can be utilized in the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) application. A software simulation has been done to verify features of this front end converter in the SRM drive system.
