Abstract
The short-term hydrothermal scheduling (STHS) problem with the valve point effect is a nonlinear and non-convex optimization scheduling issue in the economic operation of power systems. In order to overcome these difficulties, we propose a modified chimp optimization algorithm (MCOA) to work out the STHS problem. On account of the standard COA has a strong dependence on the initial population and is easy to fall into local optimal defects, two improvement approaches are proposed in this paper. One is to initialize the population by using sin map, the other is to improve the chaotic parameter. We use a test system with four hydro plants and three thermal plants to prove the effect of these improvements. The experimental consequences indicate that MCOA has a strong competitive advantage over other approaches in terms of the optimal result, which verify the feasibility and effectiveness of MCOA in the solution of hydrothermal scheduling.
