Abstract

Optimal harvesting intensity of the alkaline grass- land ecosystem of Songnen Plain in north east China under climate change was studied based on a recently developed computer model, MAGE (Model of Alkaline Grassland Ecosys- tem). The derived harvesting intensity is optimal, for it gives maximum utilization of the biological resources (biomass of grazing plants) while maintaining system stability. Massive simulations were run to evaluate the effects of temperature increase, precipitation increase and surface soil thickness on soil alkalizationlde-alkalization process, biomass production and optimal harvest control. The result showed that the soil de-alkalization increases with surface soil thickness
