Abstract
Overtone-induced isomerization is studied in a simple model for unimolecular isomerization. Considerable reaction rate enhancement occurs for certain initial overtone excitations, and the reactivity patterns differ markedly from those expected from statistical ideas. The critical role of bend—stretch Fermi resonance in this model process is discussed.
