Abstract

The thermodynamics of hadron matter is investigated on the basis of the bag model. Starting with a critical discussion of previous studies carried out within the same framework, we show that, by allowing for fluctuations of the bag volume, a first-order phase transition does occur at high temperature, leading to a true deconfined plasma. The behaviour of characteristic physical quantities in the transition region is then worked out and discussed.
