Abstract

A model calculation of interstitial transition metal impurities in Si is performed along the lines of the theory of Haldane and Anderson. The electronic states of silicon are described by a simple tight binding Hamiltonian while the transition metal impurity is modeled by taking into account the intra atomic coulombic interactions between the d electrons. Results obtained for neutral Co and Mn are found to be in good qualitative agreement with previous calculations.
