Abstract
Derived herein is a mixtures’ model for porous particle–polymer composites, modified to encompass the geometrical influences of microstructure to elastic resistance. Emphasis is directed in particular to binding material contact lengths, solid state anfractuosity, pore-space influence perpendicular to the direction of loading and the effective contribution of reinforcing material. These microstructural features are contextualised within the classical Voigt model to yield a simplistic model that predicts, with greater accuracy than classical mixture-based models and contemporary porous composite models, the Young modulus for porous particle–polymer composites.
