Abstract

Stilbene analogues are important scaffolds in modern organic synthesis, due to their excellent activity in various fields. The stilbene analogues are available in nature (stilbenoids), they have great biological activity, and they are used against various health issues. The earlier method of synthesizing the stilbene compounds required expensive chemicals and catalysts like expansive transition metal complexes, metal composites for the selective synthesis. To neglect the drawbacks of conventional synthesis viz., by-product formation, lower selectivity, & low yields, the reaction can be proceeded via non-conventional light mediated techniques. The light source involves in the generation of radical mechanism which reduces by-product formation, provides regio-selective product, increases yield, decreases reaction time and its cost effective. Moreover, it doesn't require any special catalyst or chemicals for the formation of Stilbene analogues. A variety of light sources are available: UV, visible, IR, laser, and X-ray. This review emphasizes about various light sources used in the photo-chemical method synthesis of stilbene analogue compounds.
