Abstract

A compact gas analyzer for monitoring respiratory gases in the operating room has been designed using a low resolution quadrupole mass filter. The vacuum is generated by a small diffusion pump and controlled by a microprocessor which also converts the ion currents from the quadropole into gas concentration values using sensitivity factors calculated during automatic calibration against a built-in five component gas mixture.
