Abstract

A method is presented that enables reactor neutron irradiation of a voluminous liquid sample for any desired irradiation time without hindrance due to gases produced by radiolysis. A sample mounting system for gamma spectrometry is also suggested. The combined system is applied to multielement activation analysis of water in order to demonstrate the advantages of the method for the purpose. The method facilitates the nondestructive analysis of liquid samples with high precision, accuracy and sensitivity.
