Abstract

A method is suggested for the determination of the average length of chemically and structurally monotypical monomer unit sequences in homo- and copolymers by means of measuring the IR spectral absorption line intensities at low temperatures. The optical determination of the average length, called optical average, has been found to be close to the numerical average length under some conditions. The method is illustrated in a determination of the average length of oxyethylene sequences present in “Pluronic” copolymers.
