Abstract

The solid abutments of ITI implants (ITI Dental Implant System; Straumann AG, Waldenburg, Switzerland) are prepared for cemented restorations. Fabrication of the restoration does not differ from the conventional method for fabricating fixed restorations. Abutments may be prepared or modified according to esthetic demands, available space, and the path of insertion. Correcting the preparation of solid abutments intraorally may not be as precise as on the definitive cast, especially when several abutments need correction. In addition, after preparing the abutments, the prefabricated components (positioning cylinder, abutment analog and burnout plastic coping, ITI Dental Implant System; Straumann AG) for making the impression cannot be used, and a conventional impression of the prepared abutments must be made. This article describes a method for making a perforated coping on the definitive cast for preparing the intraoral solid abutments to facilitate the seating of a metal framework. This method may be used as an adjunctive technique for fabricating implant-supported restorations when intraoral preparation is not feasible or some problem has been detected. PROCEDURE
