Abstract
A method has been presented for the extraction of sterolic components from cell-free extracts of yeast. This method has been shown to give two-fold greater yields than saponification, and the yields have also proved to be much more consistent than other methods. The technique involves the suspension of the TCA-precipitated fraction of the cell-free reaction in DMSO, followed by a short period of heating, adjusting to alkaline pH, and then extraction with petroleum ether.
