Abstract

A method is proposed to evaluated strategies for national and regional technology policy development. The method uses technology forecasts and economic indicators in conjunction with a technological synergy assessment. System-level technologies are grouped using hierarchical cluster analysis techniques. Groups of system-level technologies are identified that have favorable rates of sales growth and high market share. Different technology policy strategies can be assessed by varying the criteria for technological synergy determination. An application to technology policy development for the commercial space satellite industry in the Washington, DC, region is presented. >
