Abstract

This work presents a database of metadata - available through World Wide Web - concerning the Venice lagoon, with particular reference to its geographical and institutional contexts. We examine possible solutions to a number of problems related to data description and web design. Most of the data access functions have been implemented and available on the web. Conceived as part of a larger work aimed at the creation of a GIS in support of planning and public management activities, this effort represents a first step towards a tool capable of offering an exhaustive overview of the available information and data.
