Abstract

Historically, women have been subjected to a submissive and resigned position in society, a reality largely reproduced in different social and cultural spaces. Hence, this paper reflects on the representations of women reproduced in the short stories “Para que ninguém a quisesse” (1999) and “Atrás do espesso véu” (2016) by author Marina Colasanti, based on the cultural mediation of information. For this purpose, a bibliographic, descriptive exploratory research was conducted using Laurence Bardin’s categorical content analysis. While the first tale depicts a woman subjected to total submission and resignation, the second story attributes a new meaning to this female representation by creating an active and questioning character who opposes the established patriarchal model. Thus, although opposite each other regarding the image of women they depict, the two stories analyzed are important informational and cultural productions that demand a critical reading considering their intersection with society and their questioning of reality. Finally, the perspectives presented by the short stories can contribute to unveiling women’s potentialities when included in a process of cultural mediation of information, committed to a dialectical analysis of reality, which allows subsidizing the awareness, resistance, and reframing of women’s role in society.
