Abstract

The conventional medial release for equinovarus feet has been accompanied by a high rate of recurrence of the deformity and a considerable amount of foot and ankle stiffness. A modified release, combined with a lateral excision of the distal part of the calcaneus, has been described. The operation permits good correction of club foot without requiring the extensive dissection that seems to be responsible for the postoperative foot stiffness. In selected instances of equinovarus deformity, this has been a very helpful addition to the surgical armamentarium for club foot.
