Abstract

A two-dimensional finite-element model was developed to simulate the transport and clearance of drugs released from polymers into the brain. This computer model includes the effects of diffusion and bulk flow of interstitial fluid, metabolism and capillary uptake, and is responsive to various controlled release scenarios and anatomical variation. The capability of this model is illustrated by examining the transport of three compounds of interest for neurological applications.
