Abstract
Chitty’s hypothesis is an attempt to explain the widely observed cyclic fluctuations of vole (microtus) populations in terms of natural selection. If this is indeed a necessary condition then such cycling is an example of evolution on an ecological time scale where no steady state of local or global maximum fitness is reached.KeywordsPeriodic SolutionHopf BifurcationVole PopulationCyclic FluctuationStable Periodic SolutionThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
