Abstract

Micro-shaping techniques have been realized for various applications. In this paper, a polymer micro-manufacturing technique is proposed to fabricate 3D micro-venturi tubes. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) was dipped in methyl for 2 h to fully generate the physical–chemical change. The PMMA swelling appeared through the mass transfer effect. The swelling effect techniques used on various adhesives for attaching polycarbonate to PMMA are discussed. This polymer swelling process was implemented to form the 3D micro-venturi tube into a curved nozzle with the throat size successfully reduced to 100 μm. This paper presents an economical fabrication process for micro-venturi tubes for future analysis in micro-technologies.
