Abstract

This article demonstrates the intricacies of teaching and learning in the drum section of the Malandros do Morro, samba school whose research led to the book Diário de uma ritmista aprendiz (2009). The Malandros, a space dominated by the pleasure of playing percussion, has as its biggest social function the socio-cultural role it plays within its community - the “malandrense”.
