Abstract

A device for automatic measurement of bit error rates and identification of the position of errors in magneto-optical disks was constructed, and used in actual disk evaluations. The microcomputer-controlled device enables measurements on either individual tracks or on groups of tracks, and outputs bit error rates and error distributions. In actual tests, the bit error rate of grooved TbFeCo magneto-optical disks was found to be on the order of 10?4.
