Abstract

The paper has proposed a low-profile broadband UHF base station antenna based on lumped-element matching network with the combination of a height compressed conical antenna and a matching network. The proposed antenna is applied in base station communication systems with the frequency range from 300MHz to 870MHz. Compared with the traditional UHF base station antenna, the proposed antenna has a lower profile with the height of 80mm, only 0.08 λ at 300MHz. Consideration of high power, low-profile, bandwidth and radiation pattern, it's great to adopt a conical antenna with a matching network to constitute the proposed antenna. And the lumped-element inductances and capacitances are applied to constitute the broadband matching network, and the lumped-element is welded on surface of the copper plate that is 1.0mm thick. From the experimental results, the S11 of the antenna is almost less than −12dB in the frequency band, the directivity is about 4.15dBi, the elevation/depression angle is +70°/ −70° and has a great horizontal omnidirectional radiation pattern. The proposed antenna has a reference value to develop the associated UHF base station antenna.
