A low-loss and high birefringence fluoride photonic crystal fiber in near infrared band

Abstract

A high birefringence and low confinement loss squeezed fluoride photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed with two special elliptical air holes in the cladding. This fiber is made of Fluoride glass and it has high birefringence and low confinement loss. The confinement loss of x- and y- polarization modes at 1.064 μm is under 4.74 × 10−8 dB/m. And the confinement loss of x- and y- polarization modes at 1.310 μm is 9.06 × 10-6 dB/m and 5.70 × 10-7 dB/m, respectively. This fiber has good performance at 1064 nm and 1310 nm. The birefringence value can reach 4.85 × 10-2 at 2 μm.
