Abstract

A design of miniaturized frequency selective surface (FSS) using two-dimensional periodic arrays is investigated in this work. The FSS consists of metallic fractal square loops and dielectric substrates. The simulation results show that the FSS loaded by multilayer structure can provide transmission characteristic with flat peak characteristics. By optimizing the unit cell of the structure, the new design shows high selectivity due to the sub-wavelength resonance with a reduced thickness. The optimized design performs as band pass filter at operation band from 1 GHz to 12 GHz, and shows a stable response over a wide range of incidence angle for both TE and TM polarizations.
