Abstract
We have made a preliminary study of liquid ionization chambers devices as detectors of heavy ions. It appears that the extremely recombinant track structure and energy loss fluctuations limit energy resolution. If this can be overcome and the energy resolution improved, the detector could be a useful device for long range (.7 to 3.5 gm/cm/sup 2/ argon) charged particles.
