Abstract

This letter proposes an adaptive routing algorithm for wavelength-routed optical networks. It is essentially based on routing information originating from the optical layer and contrary to current algorithms, it does not require the exchange of a large quantity of routing information. After identifying the critical effect of the lightpath's length on the overall blocking performance, a simple penalty function is proposed to limit this length. Simulation results show that this algorithm outperforms most currently known algorithms recently proposed in the literature.
