Abstract

The mixed-anion polymeric complex {[Cd(Ph 3P(CH 2) 2CO 2)(H 2O)(μ-CI) 2 CdCI(Ph 3P(CH 2) 2CO 2)(H 2O) 2]CIO 4} n (1) the coordination geometries of the two independent cadium(II) atoms Cd(1) and Cd(2) are distorted CdCl 2O 4 and CdO 3CI 3 octahedra, respectively. Cd(1) is asymmetrically chelated by a Ph 3P +(CH 2) 2CO 2 − ligand (L), Cd(2) is monodentately coordinated by another ligand L, the two cadmium atoms are joined by a pair of chloride bridges and the remaining coordination positions are occupied by two aqua ligands and a terminal chloride. The asymmetric units are syn-anti bridged by the monodentate ligand L to form a polymeric chain extending parallel to [1 1 0] and such chains are cross-linked by donor hydrogen bonds from the aqua ligands to the terminal chlorides and oxygen atoms of the chelating L ligands to form a positively charged layer with Ph 3P groups protruding on both sides. The interlayer separation is c/2 and the perchlorate anions are sandwiched between adjacent layers.
