Abstract
frederic g. cassidy (10 Oct. 1907-14 June 2000) was a philologist, lexicographer, and linguistic geographer whose interests encompassed the history of English, Creole languages, American English, and lexicography. He published scores of articles over a career of more than 60 years (most of it spent at the University of Wisconsin-Madison) but is probably best known for his groundbreaking Dictionary of Jamaican English (1967, 1980) and his monumental Dictionary of American Regional English (1985-).
