Abstract
Closing wedge osteotomy at the base of the first metatarsal is a procedure designed to reduce the increased intermetatarsal angle between the first and second metatarsals in association with hallux valgus. In the USA the technique has been adapted with an oblique approach to the osteotomy to aid compression of the osteotomy site with screw fixation.
