Abstract
A new combined method is developed for solving incompressible miscible displacement in porous media. In this method, a hybrid mixed element method is constructed for the pressure and velocity equation, while a mass-conservative characteristic (MCC) finite element method is presented for concentration equation. The introduction of these two numerical algorithms not only makes the coefficient matrixes symmetric positive definite, but also keeps the mass balance. The stability and consistence of this method are analyzed and the optimal error estimates in L2-norm for velocity, concentration and pressure are derived. Finally, some numerical results are presented.
