Abstract

This paper discusses a hybrid feature recognition system to recognise machining features in boundary representation solid model of 2.5D parts. It combines the strengths of graph-based and hint-based approaches. A pre-processor is used to validate the input part model. The graph-based system is used to extract and recognise isolated features of the part. The hint-based system decomposes the compound features into machinable features. It is capable of handling arbitrary interactions of features. The proposed integrated framework of the two approaches is tightly coupled with the machining environment to ensure manufacturability of the recognised features.
