Abstract

Whilst examining material of the South African species of Dianthus, a collection made by Dr. R. A. Dyer and Mr. J. van Breda, from Worcester Commonage, Cape Province, was found to consist of specimens of Dianthus bolusii Burtt Davy, D. caespitosus Thunb. and a number of intermediate forms, presumably hybrids between these species. Hybrids between South African species of Dianthus do not seem to have been recorded previously though their abundance amongst North Temperate members of the genus is well known.
