Abstract
Modifications to a 35 mm camera have permitted the recording of small surface deformations in metal pipe sections at temperatures up to 600°C. A fine grid pattern is applied to the surface and double exposure photographs reveal the thermally induced deformations as moiréfringe maps. Linear expansion coefficients and stress concentrations have been calculated at different positions on the specimen.
