Abstract
A special architecture for an image processing system, based on a distributed computing approach, is proposed. The multiprocessor system uses different kinds of processors with specific features well-matched to the implementation of diverse processing algorithms. These processors work in a parallel and asynchronous way, controlled by a master, and are interconnected by shared random-access memory units. A dedicated modular and interactive software package that allows easy communication between the different processor units and different image processing algorithms is presented. Some results obtained with different algorithms running in the system processors are presented. >
